Mid Term Wellbeing Check in

As we commence the back end of a very busy Term 1 so far, we felt it was important to share some important tips to help your daughter thrive in the last few weeks of term.

  1. Sleep - The teenage brain and body requires a minimum of 9 hrs sleep (ideally 10hr) per night to allow for growth, repair and recovery to occur. This is also the crucial time of the day when learning is consolidated.

As the term goes on we have noticed a few sleepy class members arriving at school. So we have come up with a few tips to help catch some extra zzzzzzzz’s!

  • Reverse engineer your bedtime. If you need to be up at 6am count backwards, what time do you need to be asleep by.

  • Turn devices/ screens over 1hr before bedtime

  • Have a consistent bedtime e.g. 8.30pm

  • Create a bedtime routine e.g. 1hr before bed take a warm shower, read a book, have some quiet time.

  • Avoid eating sugary or high processed foods before bed

  1. Social Media - While it is important for our girls to feel connected and develop friendships outside of school hours, it is also important that they follow some rules which we have discussed as a class.

  • Refrain from texting, calling or Facetiming after 7.00pm

  • Refrain from any form of texting or calling before school (everyone is trying to get dressed and organised for school)

  • Refrain from sharing numbers with other members of the class/school

  • Message your question or comment once and wait patiently for a reply

  • Always show loving kindness when interacting with one another

  1. Nutrition - As part of ensuring that our bodies are thriving with adequate energy to get through a busy Danebank day it is important we fuel our bodies with nutritious food.

  • Aim for at least one piece of fresh fruit and some veggies in our lunch boxes

  • Good sources of carbohydrates and protein

  • Plenty of water

  • Limit too many processed/ packaged foods

We encourage you to have a conversation with your daughter about these key wellbeing areas and perhaps come up with some of your own ways you can be caring for your wellbeing as a family.

P. S Please feel free to blame me for reminding the girls as part of their homework that it would be amazing if they were to help out around the house!
